Trailer Watch: The World Makes a Dying Child’s Wish Come True in ‘Batkid Begins’

Batman’s least broody iteration introduced himself on the streets of San Francisco on November 15, 2013, in front of thousands of enraptured strangers.

Behind the mask was five-year-old Miles Scott, who got the chance to be his favorite superhero through the help of the Make-a-Wish Foundation.

It was the feel-good story of the year, with the event attracting thousands of onlookers and many millions more participating online through the viral story. In “Batkid Begins,” director Dana Nachman revisits “the wish heard ‘round the world” to not only hear from Miles and his family, but also to ask why so many people were captivated by the event.

In an interview with Women and Hollywood, Nachman said, “The fact that thousands of people took their adult hats off that day and acted like kids really appeals to me. I try to look at life from the perspective of a child, with that kind of openness, as much as possible. This story, and now this film, really embodies that mindset.”

Happily, Miles has since beaten not just bad guys, but cancer as well.

“Batkid Begins” opens June 26.
