“Let’s face it,” Kate (Stephanie Allynne) tells Tig (Tig Notaro), “Mississippi is just not the right demographic for you.” Kate — the producer of Tig’s radio show — is worried that Tig’s openness about being a lesbian, her refusal to censor herself, and her left-leaning opinions won’t go over well in their old-fashioned community of Biloxi, MS.
But, as the Season 2 trailer for “One Mississippi” makes clear, Tig considers the culture clash an opportunity. “What happened to fearlessness?” she asks Kate.
The first season of Amazon’s “One Mississippi” followed Tig as she returned to her hometown after her mother’s death. Created by Notaro and “Juno” screenwriter Diablo Cody, the series also stars John Rothman as Tig’s stepfather, Bill, and Noah Harpster as her brother, Remy.
In addition to fending off gay conversion advocates, the upcoming season will see all three main characters pursue romance. Tig tries to summon the courage to ask Kate out, Remy dates a woman who doubts dinosaurs ever existed, and Bill is drawn to a love interest who claims to be “a very fun person.”
Season 2 of “One Mississippi” will stream on Amazon beginning September 8.
