Trailer Watch: Tina Fey is In Over Her Head In a War Zone In ‘Whiskey Tango Foxtrot’

The second trailer for “Whiskey Tango Foxtrot” begins with reporter Kim Barker (Tina Fey) declaring, “Everyone needs to shake up their life now and then.” Few would contest Kim’s words of wisdom, but Liz Lemon might heed the advice by, say, trying out a new kind of night cheese to feast on. Kim takes more extreme measures: The reporter signs up to cover Afghanistan and Pakistan. “Maybe I went too far,” she concedes.

The new, expletive-ridden spot for the war-journalism comedy suggests that Kim is ill-equipped to take on her dangerous job. Fortunately she has a friend to help her cope: After asking Kim’s permission to “fuck [her] security guys,” fellow reporter Tanya (Margot Robbie, “The Wolf of Wall Street”) tells her, “Come to me in a couple weeks when you’ve humped your pillows to shred.” Hey, just like one of the military officers says, “This is an extreme environment.”

Kim hasn’t done a lot of overseas reporting, and it’s clear she has many lessons to learn along the way.

The film is based on the book “The Taliban Shuffle: Strange Days in Afghanistan and Pakistan” by the real-life Barker.

Named after the military alphabet code for “WTF,” “Whiskey Tango Foxtrot” opens March 4.
