Trailer Watch: Tween Girls Come of Age and Find a Dead Body in “Summering”

"Summering"

Four tweens make a pact to solve a mystery in “Summering,” a coming-of-age story that’s reminiscent of “Stand By Me.” This time around, the friends at the center of the drama are girls. A trailer for the Sundance pic introduces us to Daisy (Lia Barnett), Dina (Madalen Mills), Mari (Eden Grace Redfield), and Lola (Sanai Victoria), who are dreading the end of summer. It’s their last weekend together before middle school starts and they’ll be splitting up. “I want to go backwards, not forwards,” one of the girls admits. “I don’t want us to end,” another adds.

The foursome discover a body and vow to figure out who the man was. “This is on us,” they say. “Somebody’s waiting for this guy to come home.”

“Summering” hits theaters August 12. The film’s supporting cast includes Lake Bell, Sarah Cooper, Ashley Madekwe, and Megan Mullally.

Another story about pre-teen girls on our radar, “Paper Girls,” launches on Prime Video July 29. The sci-fi series follows four friends who travel through time to save the world.
