Trailer Watch: Valérie Lemercier Brings Celine Dion’s Story to the Screen with “Aline”

"Aline": Jean-Marie Leroy/Roadside Attractions and Samuel Goldwyn Films

Described as “a fiction freely inspired by the life of Celine Dion,” “Aline” tells the story of the best-selling Canadian musical artist of all-time. In addition to co-writing and directing the dramedy, Valérie Lemercier stars as the singer, who is renamed as Aline Dieu in the unofficial biopic.

A new trailer for the pic revisits Aline’s early days in the recording studio and her first time on a major TV show. It also captures her blossoming romance with her much older manager and her rise to fame. She doesn’t seem overly concerned about the public scrutiny she’s under. “Let them gossip,” Aline tells her mother.

“Aline” premiered out of competition at Cannes Film Festival earlier this year and hits theaters January 21.

Irene Taylor has a doc about Dion in the works.
