Trailer Watch: “Wonder Woman” Is the Fiercest Amazon Warrior

“Wonder Woman”

Want to know how Wonder Woman became Wonder Woman? A new trailer for the Gal Gadot-led superhero film offers some insight into the Amazon warrior’s epic origin story.

“You will train her harder than any Amazon before her. Five times harder. Ten times harder. Until she is better than even you,” Wonder Woman’s mother, Queen Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen, “The Following”), says in a voice-over as her daughter’s physical limits are tested during a high-stakes training session that has to be seen to be believed. This isn’t a one-on-one battle: Diana is facing off against a crowd of weapon-wielding warriors. Whatever gifts she’s born with, it’s clear that Diana’s journey to becoming Wonder Woman demands lots of hard work.

“Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot (Chris Pine, ‘Star Trek’ franchise) crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat,” the film’s official synopsis details. “Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers… and her true destiny.”

Check out the trailer to see Themyscira, the extraordinarily beautiful island Diana calls home, and to hear her hilarious reaction to visiting London for the first time. If you’re less interested in Wonder Woman’s origin story than watching her kick ass, rest assured that there’s plenty of action in the trailer, and the golden lasso makes an appearance.

Directed by Patty Jenkins (“Monster”), “Wonder Woman” opens in theaters June 2.
