Trailer Watch: Zoe Saldaña Goes to Battle with Dark Lords in “Maya and the Three”

"Maya and the Three": Netflix

Zoe Saldaña is ready to vanish the dark lords of the underworld in a new trailer for “Maya and the Three.” The “Guardians of the Galaxy” star plays Maya, a princess determined to seize control of her own destiny, in the upcoming Netflix animated series.

Just before Maya turns 15 she discovers that her life is to be given to God of War — “a price she must pay for her family’s secret past. If Maya refuses, the whole world will suffer the gods’ vengeance,” the project’s synopsis details. Rather than accept her fate, Maya decides to team up with some allies to fulfill an ancient prophecy about warriors who defeat the gods and save humankind. “I’m proud to fight beside you,” she tells the three other outcasts she’s joined forces with.

Saldana’s upcoming slate includes a handful of “Avatar” sequels and Jasmine McGlade’s “Fencer,” a drama about a fencer vying for a spot on the Olympic team.

“Maya and the Three” premieres October 22.
