Netflix will return to Shoplifters Anonymous next year. The streamer has announced that “Trinkets,” the YA series about three very different young women who bond at a kleptomania group, will return for a second and final season in 2020. Sarah Goldfinger (“Charmed”) will be coming on as showrunner.
“Trinkets” is based on the novel by Kirsten “Kiwi” Smith (“Legally Blonde”) and premiered earlier this summer. Smith created, writes, and exec produces the TV adaptation alongside Amy Andelson and Emily Meyer.
The series’ main characters are “grieving misfit” Elodie (Brianna Hildebrand, “Deadpool”), “mysterious outsider” Moe (Kiana Madeira, “The Flash”), and “imperfect picture of perfection” Tabitha (Quintessa Swindell, “Euphoria”). Larisa Oleynik (“Mad Men”) and Joy Bryant (“Parenthood”) are also among the cast.
Goldfinger will take over showrunning duties from Linda Gase (“Switched at Birth”). She has previously produced and written for “Jane the Virgin,” “Almost Human,” and “Grimm,” among other series.
Smith’s résumé includes “10 Things I Hate About You,” “Ella Enchanted,” and next year’s “Legally Blonde 3.” She and frequent collaborator Karen McCullah recently sold a pitch about 70-something party girls to Paramount Pictures.
