J.K. Rowling’s The Casual Vacancy will be adapted into a three-hour miniseries for HBO and the BBC.
Set in the picturesque English village of Pagford, the novel is Rowling’s first book after completing the Harry Potter series. The multi-character story focuses on the increasing tensions between the haves and the have-nots that an open position on the local city council suddenly stirs up.
Writer Sarah Phelps (BBC’s Great Expectations) will pen the miniseries. Produced by Ruth Kenley-Letts (The Hour), the project is spearheaded by Rowling’s boutique production company, Bronte Film and Television.
