Fable Pictures is bringing a story about iconic sisters to the small screen. The production company acquired rights to Joan and Jackie Collins’ life stories, which will serve as the basis for a six-part television series about the siblings. Deadline confirmed the news.
Set to be penned by Penelope Skinner (“Fresh Meat”), the series, which doesn’t have a broadcaster attached, will follow the sisters “from a teenage bedroom in post-war London to the glitz and glamour of 1980s Beverly Hills.” Sony Pictures Television will distribute the series internationally. Faye Ward (“The Crown”), Hannah Farrell (“Suffragette”), and Caroline Harvey are among the project’s exec producers.
Dame Joan Collins is best known for her role as Alexis Carrington in “Dynasty.” “American Horror Story,” “The Girl in the Red Velvet Swing,” and “Rally Round the Flag, Boys!” are among her other credits.
Jackie Collins OBE wrote 32 best-selling books that sold 500 million copies worldwide. Her novels include “The World of Full of Married Men,” “The Stud,” and “The Bitch.” The latter two were adapted into films starring Joan. Jackie died in 2015 from breast cancer.
“I am thrilled to be working on the fascinating story of these fabulous, iconic, and powerful women,” said Skinner. “There is far more to Joan and Jackie than diamonds and shoulder pads: these are two very special sisters whose lives are both aspirational and inspirational.”
Skinner, who is also a playwright, has spoken out about the need for more female-led stories. “Do we believe that women in general are hungry for stories about them?” she asked “I believe that they are. It happily coincides that I’m also most interested in telling those stories,” she explained. “I don’t think I could do anything else. I feel driven to tell those stories.”
