The force behind the “Twilight” phenomenon is returning to the world of YA. “Twilight” author and producer Stephenie Meyer is backing a new supernatural film franchise. Meyer and Meghan Hibbett will produce the big-screen adaptation of Kendare Blake’s best-selling and critically acclaimed YA novel “Anna Dressed in Blood” for Fickle Fish Films.
The film will be helmed by Grammy-winner Trish Sie (“Step Up: All In”), famed for her viral music videos. Allison Wood will pen the script.
Meyer optioned the book, which focuses on Cas Lowood (to be played by Cameron Monaghan, “Shameless”), who, like his late father before him, kills the dead. He travels the U.S. with his mom and his sidekick — a cat who can sniff spirits. Cam’s destiny doesn’t leave much room for friendship or making plans for the future. Cam encounters a girl — who’s also a ghost — unlike anyone else he’s met before. His interest is mutual. Anna (Maddie Hasson, “Twisted,” “I Saw the Light”) has murdered every person who has entered the house her family used to live in — everyone except Cam, that is. The two explore their intense connection and try to make sense of their sad, difficult pasts and present.
The Solution Entertainment Group’s Lisa Wilson and Myles Nestel are also producing, and will finance. “Anna Dressed in Blood” will be introduced to buyers at Cannes. UTA Independent Film Group is repping the U.S. rights.
“We literally searched the world for over a year to find the perfect actors to bring this genre-spanning story to life,” said Meyer in a release. “Cameron and Maddie, both so talented individually, together have that rare and extraordinary chemistry that lights up the screen.” She added, “Trish Sie has the perfect background to visually translate Kendare Blake’s compelling story in a way that speaks to the modern viewer.”
