“Two of Us” has secured North American distribution days after its world premiere at the the Toronto International Film Festival. The drama about retired women in a long-term, hidden relationship was snagged by Magnolia Pictures, The Hollywood Reporter confirms.
To the world, Nina (Barbara Sukowa) and Madeleine (Martine Chevallier) are neighbors. In reality, they are lovers of many decades. The two have kept their romance a secret, but an unexpected event means that they won’t be able to keep the nature of their relationship under wraps if they are to stay together.
“Filippo Meneghetti has delivered an incredibly beautiful, profound directorial debut and Barbara Sukowa and Martine Chevallier are unforgettable in the lead roles,” said Magnolia president Eamonn Bowles.
Meneghetti penned the script for “Two of Us” with Florence Vignon (“A Few Hours of Spring”) and Malysone Bovorasmy. A theatrical release is planned for early 2020.
A new trailer recently dropped for another TIFF drama about a secret romance between women, Céline Sciamma’s “Portrait of a Lady on Fire.”
