At the U.K.’s 22nd annual Women in Film and Television Awards, fifteen women were honored from all aspects of television and film.
Amongst the winners were Clare Balding, a sports presenter, who covered the Olympics this year. Actress Olivia Colman received an award for best performance. Writer of Call The Midwife, Heidi Thomas won for best writer. And directors Sally El Hosaini and Lynne Ramsay also picked up awards.
Kate Kinnimont, the chief executive of Women in Film and Television, had this to say about El Hosaini and Ramsay winning awards.
I'm particularly pleased that we have two exceptional film directors Lynne Ramsay and Sally El Hosaini among our winners this year. There is still a significant gender disparity when it comes to feature film directors, but the talent of Lynne and Sally, irrespective of the gender, is undeniable – and I'm proud that our awards are recognising that.
