Uzo Aduba is set to take over Gabriel Byrne’s therapist chair. According to Deadline, the three-time Emmy winner has signed on to topline Season 4 of “In Treatment” in a reimagined take on the series. The Peabody-winning drama, which offered an intimate look into Dr. Paul Weston’s (Byrne) sessions with his clients and with his own therapist (Dianne Wiest), ended its three-season run in 2010.
The half-hour series is slated to go into production this fall with a 2021 debut planned. Aduba will play the lead role in the series, Dr. Brooke Lawrence, a therapist who will see “a diverse trio of patients in session as she wrestles with her own issues.”
Aduba won her third Emmy this year for her portrayal of Shirley Chisholm, the first Black woman elected to the United States Congress, in “Mrs. America.” She previously took home two Emmys for her role as Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren in “Orange Is the New Black.”
“Even before ‘Orange,’ “I’ve always wanted to tell the story of the missing — people who have something new to say, or something we’ve already heard said before, but we’ve never heard that person say it,” Aduba has said.
