Vanessa Bayer Comedy “Big Deal” in the Works at Showtime

Another “Saturday Night Live” alumna has her own show in the works. Vanessa Bayer is set to topline “Big Deal,” a single camera comedy that she’s also credited as co-creator for. Inspired by Bayer’s own life, the project is in development at Showtime from Annapurna Television, Deadline reports.

“Big Deal” tells the story of a woman (Bayer) who “overcomes childhood leukemia to achieve her lifelong dream of becoming an on-air host at a home shopping network,” the source notes.

Bayer, whose acting credits include “Ibiza,” “Office Christmas Party,” and “Trainwreck,” is a survivor of childhood leukemia. She was diagnosed in her freshman year of high school.

“The Big Sick” helmer Michael Showalter is attached to direct “Big Deal.” Bayer is co-writing with her co-creator on the series, “SNL” writer Jeremy Beiler. Both are among its executive producers, as is former “Inside Amy Schumer” showrunner Jessi Klein.

Bayer received an Emmy nod for her work on “SNL.”

Current “SNL” cast member Aidy Bryant has a Hulu series on the way. An adaptation of Lindy West’s non-fiction book of the same name, “Shrill” tells the story of an aspiring journalist who is tired of being made to feel like she’s not good enough because of her weight.

“SNL” alumna Maya Rudolph’s new show, “Forever,” dropped on Amazon in September. The comedy centers on a married couple who go on a life-changing ski trip.
