Vanessa Williams to Star in VH1 Series Based on Star Jones’ Book

Vanessa Williams is returning to television, and this time around, she’ll be the star of the show. The three-time Emmy nominee will topline VH1’s “Satan’s Sisters,” a scripted series based on Star Jones’ 2011 book of the same name.

Williams will play Maxine, the creator and host of “The Lunch Hour,” a long-running women’s talk show. (Jones’ book is a work of fiction, but remember that she appeared on “The View” for nine seasons.)

The series is a ratings success, but behind the scenes Maxine and her co-hosts don’t bear any resemblance to the best friends and sisters they appear to be onscreen. Off-camera, we can expect to see feuds, alliances, love affairs and power struggles.

Williams most recently appeared in an arc on “The Good Wife”. The TV vet has played supporting roles in “Ugly Betty,” “Desperate Housewives” and “666 Park Avenue.” It’s good to see her get top billing in “Satan’s Lead.” We look forward to seeing a show starring a woman of color — especially one who is over 50-years-old.

“Satan’s Sisters” will premiere in 2017. Amy and Wendy Engelberg (“Drop Dead Diva”) are the writers behind the drama, and will executive produce.
