Viola Davis may be heading from the White House back into the world of “Suicide Squad.” Currently starring as Michelle Obama in “The First Lady,” the Oscar and Emmy winner is in talks to reprise her role as Amanda Waller in a “Peacemaker” spinoff series at HBO Max.
“Exact plot details are mostly under wraps at this point, but sources say the show will build off of Waller’s appearance at the end of the ‘Suicide Squad’ spinoff series ‘Peacemaker,'” per Variety. The Season 1 finale of the critically acclaimed series saw Adebayo (Danielle Brooks), Waller’s daughter, going public with her mom’s work with the Suicide Squad. Davis appeared briefly in the first and last episodes of the John Cena-starrer.
Davis would lead the series and Christal Henry (“Watchmen”) has been tapped to write it. Both would exec produce the potential project.
A four-time Oscar nominee, Davis took home the honor for “Fences.” She’s received five Emmy nods and landed a statuette for her leading role in “How to Get Away with Murder.” Her upcoming slate includes “The Woman King,” Gina Prince-Bythewood’s historical epic about the general of an all-female military unit, and a Discovery+ docuseries exploring Black food history in the United States.
