Viola Davis Takes the Lead in Gillian Flynn Heist Thriller

Davis in “How to Get Away with Murder”: ABC

Viola Davis is set to star in the heist thriller “Widows,” Variety reports. The script will be written by “Gone Girl” screenwriter and novelist Gillian Flynn along with Steve McQueen (“12 Years a Slave”), who will direct.

As Variety details, “Based on the 1983 British miniseries about a caper gone wrong, the story follows four armed robbers who get killed in a failed heist attempt, leaving their widows to finish the job.” No word on who will play the other three robbers.

Davis stars on the Shondaland drama “How to Get Away with Murder,” for which she became the first black woman to win the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama.

She recently appeared in “Suicide Squad” and will no doubt earn awards buzz for her upcoming role in “Fences,” in which she plays the same role that won her a Tony Award on stage. She’s also recently signed on to star in “The Personal History Of Rachel Dupree.”
