Viola Davis is already the proud owner of an Oscar, Emmy, two Tonys, and dozens of other awards, and she’s set to add yet another honor to her vast collection. The “How to Get Away with Murder” star will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award at the upcoming Rome Film Fest, now in its 14th edition. A press release confirmed the news.
“Viola Davis is an extraordinary actress, who has transformed sincerity and dignity into sublime thespian art,” said Antonio Monda, the fest’s Artistic Director. “It is a great honor for me, and for the Rome Film Fest, to celebrate her formidable talent and deep humanity.”
Davis is also set to participate in a “Close Encounter” at the fest, an onstage conversation that will see her discussing her decades-long career in film, television, and theater.
“How to Get Away with Murder’s” sixth and final season is currently airing on ABC. Davis took home an Emmy for her portrayal of Annalise Keating in the legal drama. She received Oscar nods for “Doubt,” “The Help,” and “Fences,” and won for the latter. Davis scored Tony Awards for her roles in “Fences” and “King Hedley II.”
“Troop Zero,” “Widows,” and “Suicide Squad” are among Davis’ more recent credits. Her upcoming projects include “First Ladies,” a Showtime series that will see her playing Michelle Obama, and “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” a Netflix pic that tells the story of Ma Rainey, a blues singer making a record in 1920s Chicago.
This year’s Rome Film Fest will take place October 17-27.
