‘Waitress’ to Make Broadway History

When it begins previews on March 25, 2016, “Waitress” will make Broadway history as the first musical with women in all four key positions.

Based on the 2007 film by the late writer-director Adrienne Shelly, “Waitress” will be led by director Diane Paulus, songwriter Sara Bareilles, book writer Jessie Nelson and choreographer Lorin Latarro.

The stage adaptation centers on a culinary genius slumming it as a server. Jenna (Tony winner Jessie Mueller) is eager to flee her unhappy marriage and escape the confines of her small town, but finds herself pregnant with her unwanted husband’s baby.

The critically acclaimed production will open on April 24 at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre.
