Watch: “50/50” Explores the 10,000 Year History of Women and Power

An alternate view of Mount Rushmore with more women: “50/50”

For far too long the contributions of women have been forgotten and ignored. But now Tiffany Shlain, Emmy-nominated filmmaker and founder of the Webby Awards, is out to change that with “50/50.”

“50/50” is a 20-minute short film that “explores the 10,000 year history of women + power — in 20 minutes — asking where are we really on the greater arc of history of women and power? And what’s it going to take to get to a 50/50 world — not just politics and board rooms, but truly shifting the gender balance to be better for everyone.”

The film premiered at the TEDWomen and 275 TEDX events over the weekend and is now available to watch via Refinery29 and Comcast Watchable.

The story begins with Shlain learning some surprising facts about the history of women and power and setting out to find out where we are now because of the multitudes of women throughout history.
