Comedian Sara Benincasa has dreamed up hilarious and horrifying nightmare fodder. Imagine having your style and body mercilessly evaluated by a focus group while in a state of undress. Now witness the cringe-worthy, hilarious premise come into fruition in “The Focus Group,” a new short Benincasa wrote and stars in.
Benincasa plays an underachieving thirtysomething in the wake of personal and professional upheaval — she’s been dumped and fired. She’s getting through the days by binge-eating egg rolls and masturbating, but a concerned friend recommends a “boutique personal services agency” that she claims changed her own life. So off Benincasa goes to rehab-like program, where she’s chastised for her lower back tattoos, a FUPA, and shirt, which reads “FEMINIST.”
Check out the short, directed by Heather Fink, below. Funds for the project were raised via Kickstarter. Note: NSFW as “The Focus Group” contains some nudity.
