Watch: Amy Everson Asks Her Friend to Be Her Superhero Sidekick in Eerie, Heartbreaking ‘Felt’ Clip

There’s probably a much better way of asking your friend to join you in making the world a better place than prancing around in the woods with a giant rubber schlong swinging out of your bodystocking while convincing her to break up with her boyfriend.

But in the bizarre psychological drama “Felt,” the traumatized and barely-coping Amy (Amy Everson) just freaks out her friend, who is understandably creeped out by Amy’s intentionally grotesque costume. The film finds its protagonist responding to sexual trauma by dressing up in strange, gender-bending outfits and “co-opt[ing] the misogyny that surrounds her,” according to one review. In the eerie clip below, you can hear Amy’s earnestness in her croaky voice — and she’s certainly right in encouraging her friend to end her abusive relationship — but it’s also heartbreakingly clear that Amy isn’t any sort of model for mental health, either.

“Felt” arrives in theaters June 26 and on VOD July 21.
