After a stellar third season, “Veep” finally returns to the airwaves on Sunday, April 12. A new trailer for the HBO comedy finds Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Selina Meyer, who flamed out spectacularly on the primary campaign trail last year, taking a shortcut to the Oval Office after the (still unseen) POTUS suddenly resigns. (He turned out to be that rare politician who really did want to spend more time with his family.)
But just because Selina and her dysfunctional staff now have the weight of the world on their shoulders doesn’t mean they’re going to stop — or can stop — being colossal screw-ups. The trailer is chockablock with creative insults, existential crises, and political farces — all the things that make Veep the most compelling portrait of Washington, D.C., this side of “Scandal.”
