Some of hip-hop’s biggest icons have teamed up for a biopic celebrating other trailblazing women in music. Queen Latifah, Mary J. Blige, and Missy Elliott joined forces with Holly Carter to executive produce “The Clark Sisters: First Ladies of Gospel,” an upcoming Lifetime film paying tribute to five sisters who became the highest-selling female gospel group in history. The network released footage of Queen Latifah, Blige, and Elliott reflecting on the project and The Clark Sisters’ impact on their lives.
“I think the Clark sisters are one of the most influential gospel groups ever,” says Queen Latifah in the spot. Blige adds, “They trained us how to sing. They trained us how to believe in God, and they really truly move me.”
Elliott emphasizes that Lifetime is a fitting home for the film because the network has “always told the story of powerful women, and of course these women are legendary.”
Directed by Christine Swanson and written by Camille Tucker and Sylvia L. Jones, “The Clark Sisters” stars Christina Bell as “Twinkie,” Sheléa Frazier as Dorinda, Raven Goodwin as Denise, and Angela Birchett as Jacky. Kierra Sheard also portrays her real-life mother, Karen Clark Sheard.
