Director Rose Troche has directed a short film for Futurestates, an online series of sci-fi shorts that explore the future of American society through a variety of topics.
Troche’s short, Elliot King is Third, explores transgender people living in a future where microchips are implanted into humans to identify them from their gender to their banking information. Being labeled a “third,” as they are called in 2024 can be dangerous for trans people in a society that is solely based on male/female identification. Elliot wants to try to change his identity to live a safer life, but can he?
Troche previously wrote and directed for The L Word. Futurestates will release a new short every Wednesday from April 24-June 5. Watch Troche’s short below.
