Films About Women Opening This Week
Ghostbusters — Co-Written by Katie Dippold
“Ghostbusters” bursts onto the screen with several of our country’s funniest women — Melissa McCarthy, Kristin Wiig, Kate McKinnon (in a breakout role) and Leslie Jones — taking the leads in this reboot of the 1984 movie. Seeing women scientists onscreen, let alone Ghostbusting scientists, is worth the price of admission, and there are lots of laughs and a bunch of inside jokes about all the hate that has been foisted upon the film. For those who think that a reboot of “Ghostbusters” will ruin their childhood (and I doubt any of them read this site): suck it, haters. This is one the biggest budget films ever to star women, so buy your tickets and support the film so that we can get more big-budget films about women made. (Melissa Silverstein)
