Harvey Weinstein giveth, and Harvey Weinstein taketh away.
The Weinstein Company has rescued Natalie Portman’s feminist Western “Jane Got a Gun” from oblivion, i.e., the Relativity bankruptcy. The film will be released in Europe this November and in the U.S. next February.
Less happy is the fate of the trans family drama “About Ray,” starring Naomi Watts, Susan Sarandon and Elle Fanning as the titular character. After a mixed reception at TIFF, director Gaby Dellal and writer Nikole Beckwith’s inter-generational saga was pulled from its September 18 opening date, with no new release schedule announced.
We’ll keep our fingers crossed for “Ray.”
