Women Producers

Wendi Deng Murdoch Becomes a Producer

Rupert Murdoch’s wife Wendi is venturing into producing with the new film Snow Flower and the Secret Fan based on the best selling book by Lisa See. Ms. Deng Murdoch read the book several years ago and optioned it. She also raised the funding from mostly Chinese investors. The film will be released in the US on July 10 by Fox Searchlight, a division of 20th Century Fox (which Murdoch owns.)

Here’s what Wendi Deng Murdoch said about the book:

I read the book four years ago and really liked it. I really identified with it. Even though the story is about two Chinese women, it is about the friendship of two women and how they overcame different difficulties and different situations in life. Even though this story happened in China, this kind of story happens in every country, every race, so it is a universal theme.

The film is directed by Wayne Wang who directed the hit movie The Joy Luck Club. Hopefully he will have another hit. Trailer after the jump.
