WGA Awards to Hold Tribute to Nora Ephron

nullOn Sunday, February 17, the Writer’s Guild of America, East will hold their annual awards ceremony. They’ve just announced that included in the ceremony will be a tribute to Nora Ephron, the beloved writer and director who died last June after a battle with leukemia.

Ephron with her string of hits, Sleepless in Seattle, When Harry Met Sally, Silkwood, Julie and Julia, had been nominated for, but never won a WGA.  In 2003, Ephron received the Guild's Ian McClellan Hunter Award honoring the body of her work writing films.

The tribute to Ephron will be led by author Meg Wolitzer. Ephron had adapted and directed a film version of Wolitzer’s novel, This Was My Life, in 1992.

Michael Winship, President of the Writers Guild of America, East released a statement on the tribute to Ephron.

At this year’s Writers Guild Awards East Coast ceremony, we will mark the passing of one of our most distinguished and creative members. Nora Ephron’s life and body of work were those of a quintessential New Yorker, but not only did she embody the sophistication, wit and energy of our city, she was also a loyal union member who walked the picket line and talked the talk on behalf of all her fellow writers.

Ephron’s last play, Lucky Guy (which is fittingly New York centric), will hit Broadway in March 2013. It will star Tom Hanks and Maura Tierney.
