The Writers Guild of America announced their 2014 award nominees today. Only two female screenwriters — Dallas Buyers Club co-writer Melisa Wallack and Before Midnight co-writer/star Julie Delpy — were honored.
As usual, women writers fared better in the nonfiction field. Sarah Polley picked up another nod for Stories We Tell, while No Place on Earth director Janet Tobias received a documentayr nomination for co-writing No Place on Earth, as did co-director/co-writer Sara Lukinson for Herblock.
Women writers were represented on all the TV shows singled out for WGA recognition. Among the single-episode categories, Gennifer Hutchison (Breaking Bad), Michelle King (The Good Wife), and Michelle Ashford (Masters of Sex) earned individual nods for dramas, as did Elaine Ko (Modern Family), Sian Heder (Orange is the New Black), and Liz Friedman and Jenji Kohan (Orange is the New Black again) for comedies.
