Whitney Cummings is returning to television.

After co-creating CBS’s “2 Broke Girls” (still going strong) and creating/starring in NBC’s “Whitney” (canceled after two seasons), Cummings is heading to cable. The comedienne will headline her own HBO stand-up special and is currently developing a new series, which has received a pilot order from the premium cable network.

Based on Maureen Dowd’s “Are Men Necessary?: When Sexes Collide,” the half-hour comedy is described as “a comedic portrait of modern relationships that focuses on human nature and social construction using documentary elements and appearances from experts to help the characters understand the biological basis of their behavior.”

Cummings will star as well as executive produce in the new series alongside Dowd. Her stand-up special will air in Fall 2016.
