Whoopi Goldberg Has Gotten Really Busy Lately

nullI saw Whoopi Goldberg last evening on a post screening discussion at the ESPN Films & espnW kickoff event for the NINE For IX Series following the New York premiere of Venus Vs. which included the short film she produced on C. Vivian Stringer, Coach.  Coach is such an incredibly uplifting film about a strong and great women and coach, the only woman (or man?) who has taken three teams to the final four.

You can see the full film here.

Whoopi talked about being interested in the film because women’s basketball and women’s sports don’t get paid enough attention in the culture.

Whoopi has been creatively busy of late.  Her directing debut I Got Something to Tell You about the comedian Moms Mabley premiered this past spring at the Tribeca Film Festival to great notices.  It won an award this past weekend at the Provincetown Film Festival.

But she’s not done.  She is set to star in and executive produce A Day Late and A Dollar Short for Lifetime.

Based on the novel by Waiting to Exhale author, Terry McMillan, Goldberg will star as Viola Price, a disgruntled mother, who upon learning that her next asthma attack will probably kill her, goes about the process of repairing her distant and dysfunctional family before her death. However, this will not be an easy feat since her family is dealing with their own struggles ranging from pregnancy, drug addiction and terrible romantic relationships.

Production is set to start sometime this summer with a 2014 premiere.
