Whoopi Goldberg to Co-Star in ABC Comedy as Football-Obsessed Ex-Cop

EGOT winner Whoopi Goldberg is returning to scripted television.

Goldberg, who has served as a host on “The View” for the last decade, will co-star in the sitcom “Delores & Jermaine,” based on Jermaine Fowler’s life. She will play Fowler’s grandmother, Delores, a former cop who became a football-obsessed recluse after retiring from the force and takes in her millennial grandson after he’s kicked out of his parents’ house.

“Delores & Jermaine” is part of ABC’s continued efforts to diversify its programming after freshmen series “Black-ish,” “How to Get Away With Murder,” and “Fresh Off the Boat” all proved ratings winers. Should “Delores & Jermaine” go to series, Goldberg’s participation is not expected to impact her presence on “The View.”
