WIFT Germany Announces Berlinale Event with Lone Scherfig

If you find yourself in Berlin this coming Saturday, you should consider attending “How to Attract Audiences in a Changing Cinema Landscape – Fresh Ideas for Storytelling and Outreach.” The panel from Women in Film and Television (WIFT) Germany will feature a conversation between director Lone Scherfig (“An Education”) and Julie Bergeron, Head of Industry Programs at the Marché du Film in Cannes, according to a press release. The discussion will be hosted by journalist and author Katja Eichinger.

The panel’s description reads, “In the light of continually changing viewing habits, sticking to the existing standards of cinema is not enough. Instead, we need to profoundly challenge the ways we tell stories and develop new methods of engaging our audience.” Scherfig, Bergeron, and Eichinger will try to answer the question, “Which new opportunities have evolved in these fields and how can we successfully make use of them?”

The event, hosted by WIFT, will be held at the Berlin International Film Festival. Along with the conversation, the event will include a speed-networking session for attendees.

WIFT is an international network of more than 13,000 women from professions in the creative industry. The organization arranges “high-quality events and public discussions on cutting-edge topics for all crafts of filmmaking” as well as networking events, industry collaborations, and lobbying.

Scherfig’s credits include the Oscar-nominated coming-of-age drama “An Education,” “One Day,” and “The Riot Club,” Her newest movie, “Their Finest,” centers on Catrin (Gemma Arterton), a young woman who is hired to write dialogue for female characters in Britain’s WWII propaganda films. The dramedy opens March 24.

“How to Attract Audiences in a Changing Cinema Landscape” will take place February 11 at 10 a.m. Visit the WIFT Germany event’s website to purchase tickets and find out more.
