Women and Hollywood on the Road in London and Stockholm

Women and Hollywood (meaning me) is about to embark to Europe for several public appearances that I wanted to make sure any of our readers in those countries know about. If you are at any of these places at these times, please come. I love meeting readers of Women and Hollywood on my journeys.

London

Bird’s Eye View Festival — Small Talk — 6:15pm, Saturday, April 12, BFI Southbank

Here’s a description:

Sit back and hear from a hand-selected group of inspirational speakers discussing topics to concern and engage the modern film mind, including:

NEUROCINEMATICS with producer-director Amy Hardie. How does the brain process watching a film, and how can that information be used for creative output?

WHY NUMBERS MATTER with journalist Melissa Silverstein (Women and Hollywood). Everyone loves film awards, but how are the results affected by who’s voting and levels of unconscious bias?

ONLY A WOMAN COULD HAVE MADE THAT with award-winning director Pinny Grylls. Are female documentary makers the adventurers of the film world, and what makes a female pioneer?

BEYOND THE BECHDEL TEST with female character consultant Gabriella Apicella. How can all filmmakers work to look at female characters more creatively?

(FYI- I’m going to be hanging out at Benugo in the BFI starting at 4pm if people want to hang out and chat prior to the small talk.)

Stockholm

Panel: Making Room for Women in Film panel — 3pm, Bio Rio Theatre, Stockholm

During the A-labeled movie this weekend, we have invited some wise people from different parts of the industry to give us a brief history lesson regarding women in the film, and help us to predict the future regarding when the film industry can become equal.

I’ll also be at the Second International Conference of the Women’s Film and Television History Network prior to these appearances.
