Some news on two of the top tier female directors-
Nicole Holofcener will be directing Julia Louis-Dreyfus and James Gandolfini in a film for Fox Searchlight according to the Playlist. Here’s the description:
“story will center on a masseuse (JLD) who falls in love with the husband (JG) of a new friend.”
Debra Granik will direct the HBO pilot The American Highlife which she is also producing. According to Thompson on Hollywood,
“The semi-autobiographical family drama follows a young career woman to her economically depressed small home town in the midwest.”
HBO has yet to greenlight the pilot.
She is also developing the third film in her “bone” trilogy Russell Banks’ Rule of the Bone. Here’s the description of this one:
“the story of a 14-year-old Jamaican-American whose step-father molests him; the kid then steals money from his mother to buy drugs. When his parents kick him out, he flies to Jamaica to find his father.”
