Women in Entertainment Power 100 List

The Hollywood Reporter published its annual list of the most powerful women in entertainment yesterday and the news is that women rule TV and really don’t have enough power in the film business. I guess that really shouldn’t surprise most people, but when you look at the list (which is of course subjective) you can see how much work women have to do. Also, if you were wondering why you like cable more than the networks you will notice that women have a lot of power in the cable business.

Other things of note:

  • The Bridesmaids Effect — the cast made it to the list at #44. Tina Fey was the only other female actress on the list. No dramatic actresses made the list.
  • Only one female director — Jennifer Yuh Nelson — Kung Fu Panda 2
  • Not enough women of color
  • Lady Gaga is number 30.

Here are the top 20:

Anne Sweeney: Co-Chairman, Disney Media Networks President, Disney/ABC Television

Amy Pascal: Co-Chairman, Sony Pictures Entertainment

Bonnie Hammer: Chairman, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment

Abbe Raven: President and CEO, A+E Television Networks

Dana Walden: Chairman, 20th Century Fox Television

Stacey Snider: Co-Chairman and CEO, DreamWorks

Nina Tassler: President, CBS

Donna Langley: Co-Chairman, Universal Pictures

Nancy Dubuc: President, History and Lifetime Networks

Sue Kroll: President of Worldwide Marketing, Warner Bros. Pictures

Lauren Zalaznick: Chairman, NBCUniversal Entertainment & Digital Networks

Veronika Kwan-Rubinek: President of International Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures

Megan Colligan: President of Domestic Marketing and Distribution, Paramount

Nikki Rocco: President, Universal Pictures Distribution

Kathleen Kennedy: Producer

Sue Naegle: President, HBO Entertainment

Ann Daly: Chief Operating Officer, DreamWorks Animation

Emma Watts: President of Production, 20th Century Fox

Jennifer Salke: Entertainment President, NBC

Oprah Winfrey: Chairman, Harpo

I guess some good news is that there is consistency in this list especially at the top level with Anne Sweeney holding the top spot for the third year in a row. Oprah did make the top 10 this year and now without her daily show she ranks at number 20.
