Women in Film and The Black List Team Up To Launch TV Lab for Women Writers

Women in Film, Los Angeles and The Black List have announced a new episodic television lab for women writers. Eight non-professional writers will be invited to join the lab. The joint venture is now accepting script submissions.

The eight-week lab is an opportunity for women television writers early in their careers to receive mentoring and feedback on their work. The lab will hold master classes with seasoned writers and Hollywood executives. There will also be intensive workshopping and script development sessions. The program has not yet announced the Master Class teachers and writing coaches.

At the end of the lab, writers will have their scripts read by agencies and networks. Additionally, the Black List will host the writers’ scripts on their site for free.

Twelve writers will be selected by The Black List and 12 writers will be selected by WIF for a total of 24 finalists. These finalists will produce a one-page personal statement which will be used to decide the eight writers asked to join the lab.

“As high-quality television programming grows more popular and prominent daily, so too does the need for women to have an inclusive voice, to be equally represented in the creative process,” said WIF executive director Kirsten Schaffer.

WIF and The Black List are accepting applications until May 15. You can find more information and apply here. (Note: WIF members should apply via WIF, not The Black List.)
