For the last 20 years, Women in Film has given its members the opportunity to hone their skills while giving back to the community through its Public Service Announcement Production Program. Each year, WIF chooses four or five charity organizations committed to women and children to receive a pro bono PSA.
This year, WIF-LA’s Crystal + Lucy Awards, which will honor Cate Blanchett, Kerry Washington, Rose Byrne, Eva Longoria, and director Jennifer Lee as previously announced, will also recognize two leaders of the PSA Program, former chairwomen Bonnie Spence (2001–2013) and Judith Parker Harris (1994–2001).
In a statement, WIF-LA notes that, “under Spence and Harris’ leadership, the [PSA] program mentored and trained over 4000 production members; was the recipient of industry vendors giving 18 million dollars in pro bono services; and grant-giving organizations donating $540,000 for production operating costs that created award-winning PSAs for over 100 charities throughout the nation.”
Tracee Ellis Ross will be handling the hosting duties for the June 11 event, and presenters include Amy Adams, Shonda Rhimes, Kristen Bell, Lake Bell, and Nicola Maramotti, among others.
