Helene Granqvist has been named Women in Film & TV International’s (WIFTI) new president. A press release announced that the Swedish producer, who is also president of WIFT Sweden, was elected at WIFTI’s annual board meeting.
Originally started in LA in 1973, Women in Film (WIF) is now in its fourth decade and the org represents women internationally. WIFTI was launched 21 years ago, bringing together 50 chapters around the globe.
“On the heels of #MeToo, it’s more important than ever that women organize to support each other in the crucial work for equal rights and the same opportunities afforded to men,” said Granqvist. “Women in Film has been doing this for over 40 years, and we’ll continue until the systems and the structures have been changed.” She added, “Sweden is a visionary country on the forefront of the path towards gender equality, and I look forward to sharing some of the lessons we’ve learned. It’s time for the industry to realize that gender equality isn’t a ‘women’s issue,’ it’s something that the entire business needs to work to improve, in order to create a better future.”
In other WIF news, it was previously announced that NYWIFT Executive Director Terry Lawler will conclude her tenure after 20 years.
