Women in Film & Video of Washington, D.C. has announced the second installment of their #GalsNGear pop-up event. The event, set to promote gender balance in digital content production, will take place during the 2016 National Association of Broadcasters’ NAB Show New York, taking place November 9–10 at the Javits Convention Center in New York City, NY.
The goal of #GalsNGear is to “create visibility, training, and networking opportunities for women in technical positions in production and post-production for broadcast, film, mobile, web, and transmedia projects,” their announcement details.
“Women are front and center in our industry,” said #GalsNGear creator and co-host Amy DeLouise, a producer who serves on the WIFV Advisory Board. “We want to spotlight their achievements and encourage more gender balance across all fields of media-making.”
The event has two parts: “GalsNGear Demo,” showing off the latest gear with behind-the-scenes clips from films, will take place on Wednesday, November 9 at 4 p.m on the Keynote Stage. On Thursday, November 10 at 1 p.m. on the Inspiration Stage, a panel discussion called “Breaking Through with #GalsNGear” will feature leading women in media on career breakthroughs, gear innovations, genre-jumping, and more.
Participants at the event will include: Sybil Steele, founder and director of the VR studio TEMME Media, director and author Amy DeLouise, cinematographer Cailin Yatsko, Oscar-winning senior finishing artist Katie Hinsen of Light Iron, cinematographer Sheila Smith, Lynda.com senior post production staff author Ashley Kennedy, Cinematographer XX founder Autumn Eakin, and best-selling author and producer-director Gabrielle Kelly, editor of “Celluloid Ceiling: Women Directors Breaking Through.”
