In this month’s crowdfunding picks, it’s all about the challenges women face, be they the daily challenges of finding a job, or the struggle of coming to terms with one’s own past. These women-helmed projects all have unique voices and narratives that show women dealing with adversity and rising to the occasion.
Real life struggles faced by women inspired “The Sound of Darkness,” a supernatural/horror film about two women being haunted by a woman only they can see and hear. The filmmakers have partnered with The Black and Missing Foundation to bring awareness and attention to the over 64,000 missing black women and girls in the United States.
“Blackpoint’s Daughter” focuses on the daughter of a hitman who must rescue her missing sister from the clutches of a crime boss. The struggles of accepting and confronting one’s past are universal, and are the core themes of this intense Neo-Western.
Finally, “Werk” takes a far more comedic and light-hearted look at women trying to make it from day to day. Created by two close friends trying to break into the world of comedy, their series focuses on the common struggle of finding jobs and making ends meet.
