Women Win Top Doc Awards at TIFF

null

Women directors took home the top audience awards in the documentary area at TIFF this year. Jehane Noujaim’s The Square took home the top audience prize. The film looks at the Egyptian revolution and it’s aftermath over the last several years. It premiered at Sundance, but Noujaim showed a different cut of the film at TIFF.

The Square is currently looking for distribution.

Canadian filmmaker Alanis Obomsawin’s Hi-Ho Mistahey! and New Zealand’s Leanne Pooley’s Beyond the Edge were first and second runners up.

The Blackberry People’s Choice Awards are the main awards at TIFF and are chosen by the audience members at public screenings.
