Women’s Rights Advocates Win Nobel Peace Prize

What amazing news. I am beyond inspired and excited.

Three women — Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Leymah Gbowee and Tawakkul Karman — — were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for their non-violent struggle for the safety of women and for women’s rights to full participation in peace-building work.

Ellen Johnson Sireleaf and Leymah Gbowee are from Liberia and Johnson Sirleaf is currently the president of Liberia and she is now running for re-election.

Tawakkul Karman is from Yemen.

Gbowee recently released a new biography Mighty Be Our Powers: How Sisterhood, Prayer, and Sex Changed a Nation at War and her story is part of the amazing film Pray the Devil Back to Hell which is a part of the Women, War and Peace series that will air on PBS starting next week.

Here is my coverage of the launch of Women War and Peace.

Here is Leymah talking on Tavis Smiley’s show. She makes you feel hopeful for the world.
