“Wonder Woman 2” Gets a Release Date

“Wonder Woman”: Warner Bros.

Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman is set to return for her second solo outing in two years time, Warner Bros. has confirmed. Christmas will come early for fans of the Amazonian demigodess, as she’ll be back in action in “Wonder Woman 2” on December 13, 2019.

Warner Bros. had previously announced an “untitled event film” from their slate would be released on that date. It seems the studio is keen to capitalize on the phenomenal success of the Patty Jenkins-helmed “Wonder Woman” — which is now officially the second-highest-grossing film of 2017 behind “Beauty and the Beast” — as it’s “Wonder Woman 2” which has secured the slot.

No word yet from the studio as to whether the woman who made herstory with “Wonder Woman” will be back to direct the sequel, but Jenkins is already working on a treatment, according to Variety. Jenkins and the overseers of the DC universe have remained tight-lipped as to where the film might take Princess Diana of Themyscira, though Jenkins has previously stated that were she to be at the helm once again, “Wonder Woman 2” would eschew the European setting of the first movie and see her travel to the United States.

Gal Gadot will be back on our screens as Wonder Woman in the meantime when she joins the rest of the Justice League for their first cinematic outing in November. Warner Bros. teased fans with a new trailer for the film which was shown at San Diego Comic-Con, in which Diana is front and center.
