Bob Greenblatt, the new chief at NBC, is aggressively stepping up his pilot pickups for next season and he’s hired several women writer/creators. He has also revived that recently deceased David E. Kelley version of Wonder Woman.
Other shows getting a pilot greenlight include Smash from playwright Theresa Rebeck (executive produced by Steven Spielberg) which takes place behind the scenes at a Broadway musical, and I Hate That I Love You from Jhoni Marchinko (Men in Trees, Will and Grace) described on Deadline “as a twisty single-camera romantic comedy in which a straight couple introduces two of its lesbian friends to one another and what results is both instant attraction and a pregnancy.”
USA picked up to series Necessary Roughness created by Liz Kruger and Craig Shapiro. The show stars “Callie Thorne (“Rescue Me”) as a Long Island divorcee who gets a job as a therapist for a professional football team and struggles to find a balance between her personal and work lives.” (Variety)
CBS has given the pilot order to The Doctor, “executive produced and written by Rina Mimoun (Privileged), centers on a mother who reconnects with her adult children when she joins the family medical practice.” (THR)
