“Younger” Spinoff Led by Hilary Duff in Development

Duff in "Younger"

Liza Miller’s work bestie may soon be taking center stage. According to The Hollywood Reporter, a “Younger” spinoff centering on Hilary Duff’s character is now in “early development.” Duff has portrayed Kelsey, Liza’s (Sutton Foster) co-worker and close friend, since the TV Land series launched in 2015.

Created by “Sex and the City” alum Darren Star, “Younger” sees a newly divorced middle-aged woman (Foster) posing as a 26-year-old in order to reenter the workforce. The comedy has been renewed for a seventh season. Per the source, Season 6 “was the highest-rated cable sitcom among women 25-54 and women 18-49.”

Star is developing the potential Duff-led spinoff for ViacomCBS, one of “Younger’s” owners. No network has been confirmed yet, “and it’s unclear if the pilot, which has not yet been scripted or filmed, could air as a planted episode” in Season 7. It’s possible the project will be brought to Paramount Network or shopped elsewhere.

Duff is attached to star in and EP Disney+’s reboot of “Lizzie McGuire,” the beloved tween comedy she toplined from 2001-2004. Prior to the pandemic, production on the project shut down due to series creator and showrunner Terri Minsky’s dismissal, which was related to creative differences. Duff has publicly called on Disney to move the reboot to Hulu, so it can honestly portray Lizzie as an adult and embrace more mature themes.

“The Haunting of Sharon Tate” and “Flock of Dudes” are among Duff’s more recent credits. She exec produced the former.
