‘Zoo’ Writer Rebekah F. Smith Will Pen Big Screen Adaptation of ‘Flawed’

The Warner Bros. adaptation of Cecelia Ahern’s novel “Flawed” is moving forward, with “Zoo” writer Rebekah F. Smith penning the script, according to Variety.

“Flawed” is the first Young Adult novel from Ahern, whose book “P.S. I Love You” was made into a 2007 film starring Oscar winner Hilary Swank.

The novel, which has a release date of April 5, hasn’t even hit the shelves yet, but Warner Bros. nabbed the rights back in October. It is set in a world where “anyone dubbed disobedient is deemed ‘flawed,’ branded with F tattoos and forced to live as second-class citizens. When a popular teenager who’s living a perfect life attempts to stand up for a ‘flawed’ passenger on a bus, she’s not only deemed ‘flawed’ herself, but becomes an unlikely poster girl for a growing rebellion,” as Variety’s synopsis reads.

Smith has experience working on sci-fi novel adaptations, having written for the CBS adaptation of James Patterson’s “Zoo,” which will air its second season this summer. The film will be produced by Wendy Finerman and Michelle Chydzik. Finerman was also a producer on “P.S. I Love You.”

With female writers and producers already on board, let’s hope they nab a female director as well for “Flawed.”
