Akela Cooper to Pen “The Nun” Sequel

Cooper: Truman State University

Akela Cooper is thinking up even more ways to terrify audiences. The “American Horror Story” alumna and exec producer of Netflix’s upcoming supernatural thriller “Chambers” has signed on to write New Line’s sequel to “The Nun.” Deadline confirmed the news.

Released in 2018, the first “Nun” pic earned more than $365 million worldwide. The horror film is part of the “Conjuring” franchise, which has taken in over $1.57 billion across the globe.

Cooper recently served as supervising producer and a writer on Netflix’s “Luke Cage.” Her other credits include “The 100” and “Witches of East End.” According to the source, she “penned the screenplay for the upcoming A.I. doll thriller ‘M3gan’ from ‘Conjuring’ Godfather James Wan and Atomic Monster.”

“I love genre,” Cooper said back in 2015. “I was born and raised a sci-fi nerd. Both my parents were heavily into genre. We watched ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation,’ ‘Babylon 5,’ ‘Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,’ ‘seaQuest,’ ‘Farscape,’ ‘Battlestar Galactica,’ ‘The X-Files.’ That was my bread and butter growing up, so I love working in genre television.” She emphasized, “If I never work in anything outside of genre, I wouldn’t be sad, honestly. If I could continue making a living writing for genre, I’ll do it and I’ll be happy to do it.”

Set to drop April 26, “Chambers” tells the story of a young heart attack survivor (Sivan Alyra Rose) who receives a transplant and begins seeing things that the previous owner of her heart saw.
